A Bird in the Hand

A white bird whistle
I have a bad habit of almost posting something on Etsy and then leaving it in draft till it is no longer relevant. So today I am finally releasing another whistle. Let the bird fly free!

Bowl 40

Back to bowls. After a brief departure I am back to bowls. These two are almost alike so I am counting them as one.

Men at Work

Granville Island Public Market is open from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM so if you can't find something to do madness is a distinct possibility. Drawing, painting, sewing, knitting and on and on. Here potter Matthew Freed paints a subtle  pattern on a platter and Gordon Mortimer carves an wooden bird. Sometimes we are interrupted by someone who wants to buy something and that is okay too.

Not a Bowl

I have taken a walk on the wide side. This plate is about 13 inches across if you or older then 30 and living Canada or if you live in the USA, else where it is 32 cm across. I want to make some larger pieces but always production calls. I will do my best to serve both masters, Mammon and the Muse.

I have been meaning to get these up on Etsy. Maybe this is the day.

The Beer Can Tool Strikes Again

This is a tool that I originally make to do scarffito back in January. Today I found out that it is and excellent tool to cut away the translucent bits from a flower cane.

Now I want to take a turn at scraffito again.

Must be a Winner

Today was First Saturday so Ray and I were in the studio working away with the gate open in case someone wanted to drop but for a visit. I young couple came in to have a look around. The young woman saw the new necklace and ... Well I guess I am on the right track because it was just what she was looking for. This also makes me happy.

Something Old and Something New

The saying is "something old and something new something borrowed and something blue". In this case substitute "found" for "borrowed".

I made these "butterfly wing beads the other day and a break from production tedium. The same day a broken string of blue beads turned up on the "free table" outside our place. In a fit of work avoidance and the with the addition of antiqued brass findings I cobbled this together.

Not at all like my usual but I like it.

And more Whistles

It looks like I am killing any plans to to a series of whistles but I am really trying to post something every day. More a daily of what crosses the work table more then anything else.

One Little Dot of Colour

The other day I made this maple leaf cane. I am pleased at the way it turned out but I realize tht I made a mistake. The outside of the cane is solid white. If I had added a a dot of colour I would have known the bottom of the design so I would not have trouble orienting it correctly in a more complicated cane. I will do that next time.

More Tooters

Some more whistles. Again the photo is on it's side. I have no idea why.

Off the the studio to do what has to be done.

Whistle Stop

All out of bowls to show for now. So today it is a new whistle design.

And the quest to make whistles that don't look like whistles continues.

I am not sure why the photo got turned sideways but I have no time to figure that out now.
